Eating problems
There are different types of eating disorders but the most common ones are anorexia, bulimia and binge eating. Eating disorders are concerned with an unhealthy relationship between food and eating and the sufferer often has a fear of being overweight. It is likely that there will be several causes for an eating disorder, rather than just one, which lead to feelings of being unable to cope. Eating may help someone going through difficult and painful experiences but this can lead to an unhealthy focus on food.
ProTherapy can help clients with:
- low self-esteem
- problems with relationships in the family or with friends
- loss or bereavement of someone close
- lack of confidence

- problems in the workplace, university, school
- trauma
These are some of the problems that may lead to experiencing painful feelings, and eventually trigger an eating disorder.
Anorexia can affect one in every 200 women, and one in every 2,000 men. People who need to watch their weight due to their occupation, for example, models or athletes, may be more likely to suffer with an eating disorder. Research can show that some people have a propensity to develop an eating disorder due to their genes.
