Low self esteem and confidence
Low self esteem and lack of confidence are terms often used to reflect a person's overall evaluation or appraisal of his or her own worth. Low self esteem can mean that you think you are a lesser person than others. It can often be traced back to early childhood experiences, such as heavy criticism, being abandoned, feeling unloved or being ridiculed or abused. It can also be a symptom of depression. Lack of confidence is an experience we can face either periodically, in response to specific events, or throughout our lives.
A positive self image encourages an expansive world view which enhances the quality of our lives. In order to overcome low self esteem it is necessary to break the cycle that keeps it going. At ProTherapy we will help you to:-
- Notice self-critical thinking and challenge its validity
- Counter the bias against yourself by focusing on your strengths and resources
- Encourage you to try new ways of behaving
- Observe the effect these new behaviours have on the way you feel about yourself.
