Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a form of anxiety disorder. It can be a time consuming and distressing condition and affects people in different ways with varying effects on their everyday functioning. Obsessions may take the form of thoughts, pictures or impulses which are usually unpleasant and come to mind when we don`t want them, leaving the person feeling very anxious. Compulsions are the ritualised behaviours performed in order to manage the obsessions e.g. frequent hand washing, counting, checking and superstitious thoughts.
Some of the obsessions and compulsions may revolve around themes of harm to self or others, contamination and germs, distressing violent thoughts, order and arrangement of items or hoarding of items.
