Supervision and personal therapy for professionals

Clinical supervision is used in counselling, psychotherapy and other mental health disciplines. The primary purpose of supervision is to ensure that the counsellor/psychotherapist is addressing the needs of the client and incorporating the function of developing the "internal supervisor". Research shows that therapists value personal therapy for how it positively impacts on personal development and professional practice.

Supervision and personal therapy for professionals

Inskipp & Proctor describe supervision as a working alliance between a supervisor and a therapist in which the therapist can offer an account or recording of his/her work, reflect on it, receive feedback and, where appropriate, guidance. The object of this alliance is to enable the therapist to gain in ethical competence, confidence and creativity so as to give the best possible service to his/her clients.
